Last updated: 17 May 2026
Important: The Beside Programme is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing thoughts of suicide, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line. A list of crisis services by country is available on our Get Help page.
By creating an account or using The Beside Programme ("the Programme") on besidehealth.org ("the Site"), you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.
1. About the Programme
The Beside Programme is a free, five-session brief mental health intervention based on the World Health Organization's Step-by-Step protocol, delivered via WhatsApp with the support of a trained peer facilitator. It is designed for adults experiencing mild to moderate depression in low- and middle-income countries.
The Programme is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are under the care of a clinician, please continue your treatment plan.

To use the Programme you must be:
- 18 years of age or older.
- A resident of a country in which Beside currently operates.
- Experiencing symptoms consistent with mild to moderate depression (not active suicidal crisis).
We reserve the right to refuse or end access to the Programme if we determine it is not appropriate or safe for a participant.
